The infamous "RimJob"

by Mark Keller2
This was the worst rental experience I've ever had. I really wish I had checked reviews here and on other forums before booking with this company. First, I ended up paying an extra $200 because the car I originally reserved wasn’t available. Why not be transparent about that? If it’s not available, it shouldn’t be shown as available on the website. No one inspected the car with me when I picked it up. Later, I noticed in the rental agreement that the vehicle already had multiple scratches—on the rims, bumpers, and doors. To be fair, the person at the counter was friendly, but that’s where the positives end. The worst part came after I returned the car. I was told everything looked good and I was free to go. Then, a week later, I received an email claiming I owed $500 for a scratch on the passenger side rim. I didn’t hit anything, and the car was always parked between two other vehicles, making it nearly impossible to have caused any damage to the rims. After doing some research, I discovered that many others have experienced the same thing—being charged $200 because their reserved car wasn't available, and then hit with a damage fee for rims. It seems this “rim job” tactic is a known scam associated with Sixt. I’ve rented cars in France, Spain, Egypt, Australia, and Brazil with various companies, and I’ve never experienced anything this shady. It’s honestly disgusting. I strongly recommend avoiding this company. Don’t rent from them!
